Domestic Abuse & Housing: Managing Joint Tenancies & Other Legal Options to Improve Safety for Survivors/Victims

Date: 23rd January 2024 at 10:30-12:30 pm

What is this webinar about?

Back by popular demand, Andrew Lane, a leading housing Barrister with Cornerstones Barristers will discuss the challenging legislative framework in relation to domestic abuse and housing and what it means for housing providers and local authorities. We will explore the perceived barriers that joint tenancies pose for housing professionals when they are looking at eviction options for perpetrators of abuse. Andy will also look briefly at how other legislation including the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 & Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023 provide additional tools to those already available to housing providers and local authorities. The webinar will offer an opportunity for a Q&A session.

In 2018 we launched the Make a Stand pledge, developed in collaboration with Chartered Institute of Housing and Women's Aid. The pledge gave housing organisations the opportunity to sign up to make four focused, but easily deliverable commitments to provide support for people experiencing domestic abuse.

More than 400 housing organisations have signed up to the pledge, making up more than 50% of social housing providers nationwide.
