The National Housing and Domestic Abuse Policy and Practice Group

The National Housing and Domestic Abuse Policy and Practice Group is led by DAHA and aims to find consensus, share best practice and influence policy and practice on domestic abuse and housing in England.

The group recognises that those who have experienced domestic abuse from an intimate partner or family member have insight and knowledge that service providers can learn from to improve their own organisation’s response and work collaboratively to deliver an effective coordinated community response.

For this reason, the experiences and perspectives of survivors are at the core of the National Group’s work. This includes taking into account how the different identities and social positions of survivors influence how they understand and experience domestic abuse and how services in turn respond to diversity and associated needs.

The group works together on a national level to ensure that:

  • The experiences of survivors of domestic abuse are heard across the housing sector in order to improve and enhance service delivery.
  • All survivors can access secure housing and good quality services when experiencing domestic abuse.
  • Coordination exists between the housing and Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) sectors with regard to domestic abuse.
  • The group has representatives from the domestic abuse, LGBT+, housing and homelessness sectors.
